Marketing Strategies for 2009

Posted on December 27th, 2008 by Collin in affiliate marketing

With 2008 coming to a close quickly you need to sit back and think about what is going to be the best way to market affiliate offers for 2009. For the most part this s a no brainier for me, it’s going to be through blogs! The perfect choice for a blogging platform would be Wordpress.

Blogs have a very unique way of disarming their visitors. By having more content then your standard landing page and a very personal feel to the site visitors feel like you really have something to tell them, so they stick around to find out what that is.

There is a wrong way to work a blog for affiliate offers or products. That is by plastering the blog you’re using with banner ads all over the place. If your site looks like a big advertisement then the chances are your traffic is going to feel the need to jump off your site fast. Just think of it this way- No one likes a pushy sales men right?

You want to have most of the content on your affiliate blog, affiliate link free. What I am doing with a few of my sites is, I have built a bunch of pages and I just leave a simple reference link to my sales or product page at the bottom of it. This way, once my visitors have got some good information on the product they are looking for and they are relaxed enough and not feeling pressured that’s when I send them to my “post” where I review the product  am trying to sell.

With a slightly positive spin and some nice call to action buttons, you can reel in a lot more clicks to your offer’s landing page, and with the pre selling you did in your review, conversions should be nice as well.

Again, this is just one method of affiliate marketing, and only one strategy as well. The best thing for anyone to do is to test different methods and see what works best for them. I really understand the blog concept a lot so this is why I support this method.

Hi Collin, I’m convinced ‘09 will be great for bloggers willing to go with the trends. One of those trends that has already begun it mobile devices. Everything is getting smaller so it stands to reason we need to fit in those small screens. I’m just not sure how many people will make a purchase off their cell phone, PDA or hand held. That part may take a while to catch up.

One tip I might make to new bloggers would be develop great content and real traffic before trying to sell too much of anything. Nice topic.

I agree with you about the affiliate banners etc. If your site is balls to the wall with affiliate banners and links it will be a turn off. I know I generally won’t stay on a site like that very long. Like you said IRL people don’t like an over the top pushy sales person and it’s the same way on the web. I’ts kind of like the soft sell vs. the hard sell.

Hiya Collin! I agree with the pushy salesman analogy, well put! Nobody likes those, yet they are constantly being forced upon us. Why?

I always felt was a way better salesmen being honest then trying to force something onto someone.
