Micro Managing Affiliate Sites – Is it Good or Bad?

Posted on April 22nd, 2009 by Collin in affiliate marketing

There are a few ways you can go about managing large amounts of affiliate websites. Alot of people prefer to build one, work with it for a while and try and squeeze as much out of it as they can before they move onto the next site. To me, this is not a smart thing to do and with the type of sites I build – time is a factor for me as well.

When you build sites based around one CPA offer (cost per action) like I do you really need to build as many sites as you can, as fast as you can. The reason is – the offers may not last very long so if you end up micro managing one or two sites you could be really losing out on a lot more potential money. Also, you could end up micro managing a site that has an offer on it that is not very popular.

If the offer you have on the site is very popular and looks like it is going to be around for a while, start spending more time on it but still remember you have to keep building forward at the same time.

The best thing to do is to build as many sites as you can at the beginning of the month, get them indexed and start building links to the sites using article marketing. After you notice the site has been indexed, check and see what type of traffic you are getting to it and if your getting lots of traffic then start looking at how to improve your CTR to the actual offer.

Basically what you want to do is see what the response is first after you build it, and if you doing good traffic wise and are getting a few leads – then start looking at squeezing it!

Surely not an easy job, but why get into products which don’t last for long, instead get into every green products?

    Hey Colin,

Good philosophy… I’m finding myself getting a little deeply involved in even the smallest of my first campaigns!! So need to nip this in the bud before I make a habit of it!!

What do you mean by green?

By ‘green’ products, I think he means products that aren’t time-limited CPA offers that expire. Instead they’d be product offers that will stay available for purchase for a long time – and thus don’t require much in the way of micromanaging. ie. a free diet product CPA (with CC sign up for recurring billing) that may expire after a while VS. an affiliate diet product that can be purchased cheaply and generate longer term commissions for you.

The best middle ground, imo, would be to create the site around a CPA and then switch it to a similar evergreen product that’s likely to stick around for a long time, once the CPA offer is stopped… all the while continuing on with creating other such sites.

Surely there are more efficient ways to build links to masses of sites than article marketing?

I’d think that blog commenting or social media profiles / social bookmarking would be a more efficient use of your time?

1 article can get you hundreds of backlinks – repeat the process and your set!
