How can you tell a site is going to fail – When it’s new!

Posted on September 27th, 2008 by Collin in Blogging

This post is NOT about building a blog network of affiliate sites but more of a point of observation I wanted to make about some of the top blogs or websites (or what we were lead to believe were the top sites) here in the blogsphere.

First, if some of you recall, I made a post called “Is Entrecard Dead” a few months ago. Well, as it turns out it is almost dead. The owner of the site has put it up for sale claiming he has not got the funds to do with it what he wanted to do with it. What a pile of crap! Just another Blogrush hype type of site that is and soon will be a flash in the past that’s built only to be sold. With all the blogs out there you mean to tell me that the owner of Entrecard could not find a way to make money off of the site so he could build it. Well, my guess is he did make some money off of it and has noticed there is a drop in income so he has decided to sell it. 100k starting bid price for a dieing site and a outdated concept is way to much money in my mind.

The Rating Blog is another site/blog that has packed it in. Alan, the owner claimed he had other ventures he had going that made more money then his blog did. So he had to take a break from his blog which is to bad because I thought he was going to be a great blogger.

Here is a sure fire way for you to tell if a site is going to be good or not and if you should have any involvement in them. First, watch how they grow. You know as well as I know it takes time to get RSS readers and when you see a site like the Rating Blog for example grow to a whopping 10k in readers in 4 months, you know that site is not going to last. The blogger is just going to burn out.

Watch out for the loud mouth bloggers who sit there and scream that all these other bloggers are dumb and that they know everything and you should do what there doing if you want to make money. The Blogger Unleashed was that way, all that guy was doing was pushing BANS and products to build BANS sites, which we all know are thin affiliate sites. That’s who was telling people to buildĀ  affiliate sites and put adsense on it so in time you could make a buck a day off of each site. What a dumb ass! And even though he came out firing all his guns and his big mouth everywhere I don’t see him around anymore. he is posting on his blog but his RSS, since he has shut his mouth a bit ha stayed the same over the past 4 months. He has his following and I really feel sorry for them. While on the Top Affiliate Challenge we all had some fun ripping that guy ammo apart.

Same goes with traffic exchange sites like Entercard. Traffic Exchange sites are no different then buying most types of traffic. They are going to be very un targeted visitors that won’t do anything for you and the buzz of them will soon die off which leaves you with a bunch of wasted time. There really is to much work involved with traffic exchanges to make it worth while and when a place like Entrecard first starts up people give it a shot but soon realize they could be doing a lot more profitable stuff then sitting there surfing sites that have nothing to do with yours. Just think about it, with the system I am going to be releasing as part of my mentor program, 1 hour a day can give you enough data to build almost five profitable affiliate blogs. What would you rather have?

I have a full day, every day that I can spend working on my sites and blogging. I don’t have time to waste with traffic exchange sites like Entrecard and anyone who is serious about what there doing online, should not waste there time either.

Oh well – I am still here, plodding along. I would love to get into serious affiliate marketing – I just need the time. I may just have to stand in line and put my hand up to be mentored by you – a nice turn around from a year ago. Love the way the site is going. You just keep getting stronger :)
    cheers les

Hey Dude, I know your still there! lol ya things have changed a lot for me eh? You should see how I can edit code now LMAO, I am almost a pro. Not really, I just had a good teacher for that aspect.

I am not sure how yet I am going to do the mentoring thing. I think I might just put everything I am doing with the other guy into one massive PDF file and give out my ICQ number to help people alone the way. Everyone will need different levels of help so I think for some they will be able to walk through the guild and understand it and just be off to the races and others will need more help. I want to be able to help everyone in what ever way they need. I also don’t like the idea of charging for a product like some do. I am sure I can but I want more personal realationships out of what I am doing as well.

Interesting article, Collin. As far as Entrecard is concerned, it has lost its novelty but I still have to give credit to it when it’s due for directing some traffic my way. I’m sad that it has actually been up for sale, I think Graham is losing all the resources to bring back its initial success.

Well, that’s the reality in IM… you need to be innovative to stay ahead.

It is to bad, I would like to see someone start a site like that and stick with it. It is very frustrating.

Since no one apparently reads the blog lol, here’s the long story short….within 48 hrs of listing EC he received so many offers and backing requests, he is keeping it.
