Are there stresses with Affiliate Marketing?

Posted on February 17th, 2009 by Collin in marketing

First off – no one ever said making money online was easy – it’s not. I have busted my ass this past year to learn a completely new industry and one that many would consider to be ay over my head. Like honestly – I was a plumber a year ago.

But now, I am moving along and some days the stresses of what I do now really get to me. When I was a plumber there was a physical load on me – now there is a mental load. And with success in affiliate marketing comes an even bigger load. Let me explain!

4 Months ago I knew I had a system that could make money. Problem was – I was focusing my efforts in the wrong area’s. That’s a trial and error thing I think all online affiliate marketers go through. Now that I made $2600.00 last month and so far this month I am sitting at $2300.00 with a little under half the month still to go. My goal for this month was to double what I did last month so we shall see how I do there. Personally I don’t think I am going to be able to – not with the sites I have up right now anyways, which brings me to my stresses of success.

The stress load I am feeling pushing as hard as I am pushing (I am building 3 to 5 sites per week – alone) is starting to wear me down. Don’t worry though – my affiliate manager at Advaliant figures with the growth he has seen from me so far in the past 2.5 months of being with them that I should be able to hit 10 to 15k per month by summer – so that’s what I am pushing for – but man is it a load like I have never seen before.

All in all I like what I am doing now. There is no better feeling in the world I think then logging into your affiliate network that you like to use and seeing that you have made some money. When I use to use Adsense I got excited seeing a $1.00 day now I get excited over a $200.00 day.

I guess the point of this post is – don’t think for a second it gets any easier once you start to make money. Always remember this – you have to keep it going and its the keeping it going part that really takes time and effort.

Collin, I think that’s great advice. Also, congrats on what you are accomplishing.

Thanks Bryan – hey if you have time you should take a look at the direct agents challenge. There is tons of room for sites that we build—–if you know what I mean.

    Great stuff Colin,

I was happy to login to my affiliate account and see $6.75 yesterday :)

My efforts on affiliate marketing have not started yet but I have a few site ideas planned.

I find my efforts veer between too many fields at times…. but this year is starting to take a nice form.

We do well with Adsense and direct sales. Affiliate stuff just hasn’t panned out. But our direct sales take a lot of time so really haven’t put much focus in that area.

Glad you are having success. I’ll have to check out Advaliant

Lovely story Colin! The old saying of “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” definitely applies to you! Thanks for sharing your story and giving sage advise to those of us who wishes to pursue the same path!

Collin, perhaps, I don’t get something, but do you outsource? If you have some spare money after paying the bills, invest them in your sites. You’ll get more time to think about strategical things and work on them.

Another point is why to create 3-5 sites per week. That’s a lot of time you probably waste. Why not to work harder on those sites which bring you money right now?

I do this to test offers. It is a lot of time but all my sites are one product offer sites, so my traffic is very targeted Rocky for the offer when they get to my site.

I can’t remember what I book I read it from, but they used the word like ustress or something. It means positive stress that fundamentally enhances your life. IM is one of those things that can turn you into a work-a-holic though. I think knowing what you’re aiming for and slowing down when you get there is important.
