Well after just over 3 months of blogging on this site I have finally received my first actual page rank and I must say I was a bit floored to see what I got. Google decided to reward me for all my hard work and handed me an amazing page rank of 4. Now that’s what I call a great rank, for the first one anyways!

I was starting to fall into the same mind set as everyone else these days that page rank was just a number and didn’t think I was ever going to get one. Every time I would see a blog with a high rank with less incoming links then what I have here I would lose more and more faith in the Google system so it was nice to see that I was not forgotten this update round.

I really can’t take credit for building most of the links I have though. If it was not for me reading Mixed Market Arts daily I never would of known where to start building so with that I have to say thank you Colin for producing some great content.

One thing that a lot of people don’t do when they get a page rank of decent value is shore it up by building more incoming links of the same value, which is important if you want to keep your good standing. Link building is no different to me as writing great content and it is something you always need to be working on. I will say this though, I have not done much in the ways of building links lately simply because I thought for a while that I was in the Google sandbox because when Feed Flare started I was very hot and heavy into building incoming links which we all know is a alert sign to the Google Bots and sends up a lot of flags with them which is not good. So now that I know I am not sand boxed it is time to start building up some more links so when we hit the next update I am hoping to see a PR of 6.

What does it mean to have a high page rank?

To me having a high page rank just opens the doors for you and your site to start making a lot of money online. Your advertising real estate value climbs up, your review costs go up and new readers look at your site differently simply because you have that number attached to it. Even though most bloggers know that page rank can be looked at from both sides of the street and hold different values, I want to have Feed Flare on the side where the money is, its just that simple :)

My initial PR was 4. The same as you have now. But on the next update, it went down to 0 and then fluctuated to 2 and finally sits on 3 at present. :)

It great to see your site with a nice PR, feels great doesn’t it.

My main site finally reached a PR4. I watched Google as they added backlinks to my site and then took them away. This went on for more than a year. I would go up to20 or 30 backlinks and a day or two later they would drop to 3.

Finally Google had me up to 126 backlinks and then the PageRank update. My site went to a PR4 from a PR3 but my 126 backlinks are now down to 28, strange.

It’s always best to keep a backlink campaign going whether you think your sandboxed or not. That way when a person is taken out of the sandbox they already have some links established.

Thanks for all the kind words. :-)

As for the anchor exchange, it is a good idea but be sure to not overdue it. That is how JohnChow received his first penalties (before he was selling tons and tons of links)

Good for you Colin !! your hard work is paying off. I got whacked by Daddy G down to 2, no idea why I suspect links and anchor text. No worries though, its a fickle tingy. Gonna go check out mixed market arts.
    Have a good one colin

Congrats on the PR4. Its a great start. I am wondering when I will be receiving my first pagerank for my new blog. I started it at the beginning of april and I have actually been doing a lot of link building so I hope that I can see some great things in the next update!
