One Year Since Top Affiliate Challenge – What A Ride It’s Been

Posted on July 15th, 2009 by Collin in Top affiliate challenge

First off I want to thank Thor Schrock for getting me onto the Top Affiliate Challenge last summer. I still remember how badly I was shaking when Thor called me and told me there was a last minute opening on the show – I was glad I got the call and glad I went.

Even though a lot of the contestants (and viewers) didn’t really like what the show was about or how it was put together, being on it will always be a memory of mine that I will hold on to forever. I met a lot of really great people on that show, people I learned a lot from, and people I hope I was always talk to.

The biggest thing I pulled out of being on the Top Affiliate Challenge was a understanding of what affiliate marketing was really about. I learned what I needed to do to get to where I am right now (which is a 6 figure income) and what I needed to do to hit my goals now and for the future.

Here Is A Very Valuable Tip!

I have never been afraid of working long hours in my life, and Lord knows I have put my time in with my former plumbing career and now online but there is just so many people out there who think that affiliate marketing, once you start making money, is an easy job. It’s not!

It takes hours upon hours of research into your niches to find out what works and what don’t. Then there is the problems of dealing with affiliate networks and advertisers just plan old robbing you of your money cause they can. And then there is staying on top of what your doing to make sure you don’t lose it, and that’s not talking about the hours you spend maintaining what you do have going to make sure that don’t die.

For the most part I am happy with what I am doing now. I just wish I could trust networks and advertisers a bit more then I do, but then again, maybe that’s just part of this industry I am yet to get use to.

So the moral of this story is?

If an opportunity ever comes your way to do something like the Top Affiliate Challenge, go for it – it will be worth it’s weight in gold to you and your future. And, if you want to make money online from home (in your PJ’s most days) your going to have to work on it, and work on it hard!!!

Thanks Again Thor!!

PS

For the first time in my life, I actually love what I do for a living.

    Hey Colin,

I never watched TAC but did hear some of the bad press…. Considering where you are now it was obviously a very important experience and I wish I had paid more attention when it was on.

You also inspire us all with your good work ethic.

I follow Thor’s blog too, and didn’t know about this link between the two of you. Affiliate Marketing has it’s pitfalls, and nothing good in life evcer comes easy, but with hard work and some expert guidance you can be very successfull. The best knowledge gets transferred on a face to face basis, and your success is living proof of that, Colin.

I also follow Thor’s blog. So it is interesting to hear that you were a part of the Top Affiliate Challenge.

People definitely do have misconceptions about affiliate marketing. It does take a lot of work just to maintain your position. As soon as you start slacking off, it’s just a matter of time before your income drops.
